Australia's second oldest zoo, Adelaide Zoo opened in 1883 and today covers about 20 acres. It's located in parkland near the city, along the banks of the River Torrens.
The non profit facility also includes a botanic garden and an area that focuses on educational programs and involving local schools. Highlights of the zoo include the different regions, including Asia, Africa, and Australia which features wallabies and kangaroos.
There's also a reptile house and an aviary, and the zoo has a full schedule of events, including animal feedings, following in the footsteps of a zookeeper, and the chance to spend the night at the zoo.
